Santiago Soler i Pla

Barcelona, 1839 – Barcelona, 1888 Politician / Lawyer

Lawyer and politician. He took part in the frustrated republican revolt of 1867 and went into exile in France. After the revolution of 1868, he became a member of the Federal Democratic Republican Party and was mayor of Barcelona in 1869.

Soler was deputy in Barcelona in 1869, ​ 1872 and 1873. During the First Republic, he was appointed minister of State by Nicolás Salmerón, and minister of Overseas by Emilio Castelar. 

After the restoration, he practiced law again. 

Soler ran again in the 1876 general election for Castelar’s Republican Possibilist party, but was not elected. In 1885, he became a republican councilor in Barcelona City Council.
