Rafael Cervera Royo

Valencia, 1828 – Valencia, 1903 Politician

Doctor and politician. He was a member of the Federal Democratic Republican Party. Between 1871 and 1872 he was senator elected in the Balearic Islands, and in Murcia between 1872 and 1873. In the general elections of 1873, he was a member of Parliament elected in Alzira. Later, in 1891, he was elected deputy in Valencia to represent the Progressive Republican Party.

Cervera is considered one of the founders of Spanish ophthalmology. In 1863, he entered the Royal Academy of Medicine as an academician, and in 1877, he directed the Instituto Oftalmológico de Madrid.
