A comprehensive list of Clavé's circle of known friends, acquaintances, relations, and political and professional associates, in alphabetical order.

Joan Prim i Prats

Reus, 1814 – Madrid, 1870 Politician

Spanish General and progressive politician. He was a statesman and became prime minister of Spain from 1869 until 1870. He was the civil governor of Barcelona, captain general of Puerto Rico, chairman of the Council of Ministers, and participated in the first Carlist war and the Spanish Moroccan campaign.

Prim is considered one of the most prominent politicians of the second half of the nineteenth century in Spain. He is also one of the heroes of the 1859 War in Morocco, during which he won the battle of Tétouan with an army of Catalans voluntaries in 1860.

Prim was assassinated after Amadeo de Saboya was elected new king of Spain in December 1870. Clavé’s letters recount Prim’ assassination. In it, we discover that Clavé was accused of being part of the conspiracy against Prim and had to escape Madrid by train at night. Prim’s assassin is still unknown. Some hypothesis have suggested that the assassin could have been Federal Republican Representative José Paúl y Angulo, the duke of Montpensier, the General Serrano or Bacía Martí.

Prim is also the title of Benito Pérez Galdós’ famous National Episodes, published in 1906. A 2014 TV show co-produced by Televisión Española, Televisió de Catalunya, Shine Iberia and Dream Team was premiered, titled Prim, el asesinato de la calle del Turco.
