Ildefons Cerdà Sunyer

Centelles, 1815 – Caldas de Besaya, 1876 Politician / Jurist

Engineer, economist, urbanist and jurist. Founder of modern urban planning, creator of the Eixample urban redevelopment in Barcelona. Influenced by the utopian socialism of Étienne Cabet, he was a member of the Spanish Courts and in 1868 he joined the Federal Democratic Republican Party. He was vice president of the Diputació de Barcelona.
