Antoni Altadill i Teixidó

Tortosa, 1828 – Barcelona, 1898 Writer

Writer, journalist, and politician. As a young literary author, he used “Antonio de Padua” as a pseudonym. He lived in Madrid and went to Cuba (as Narcís Monturiol’s secretary).

He participated in the 1868 revolution (known as La Gloriosa). During the First Spanish Republic, he was the civil governor of Guadalajara and Murcia.

He created the newspaper El Pueblo in 1854 (Madrid). He was the editor of La Discusión, and redactor of El Cañón Rayado. He collaborated in the creation of El Estado Catalán, which was directed by Valentí Almirall.

He is most known for his novel Barcelona y sus misterios, published in 1860, a socially committed novel that denounced social injustice. He also wrote La monarquía sin monarca: grandezas de la revolución de setiembre in 1869.
