Letters by Clavé ⟶ Captivity

Letters from El Saladero, 1867.

Clavé was incarcerated in 1867 in the Saladero prison, in Madrid. He was accused of having too much influence on the masses (“influencia sobre las masas de Cataluña” as he mentions in a letter). This series of letters offers Clavé’s definition of democracy, a description of the prison’s daily life, and of the prisoners incarcerated with Clavé.
