Composer and choral director. He was also a music teacher and a politician.
Vidal i Codina founded the Orfeón Leridano and was a follower of the choral societies of the brothers Joan and Pere Tolosa. One of the objectives of the Orfeón Leridiano was to get musical education to the working class. As such, the project was similar to that of Clavé’s but Vidal i Codina’s choral groups were not part of the Cors de Clavé. Indeed, Clavé and Vidal i Codina had several disagreements, although in his letter from May 4, 1863, Clavé writes that he wants to support Lérida’s choruses.
Vidal i Codina composed religious, symphonic, chamber and choral music. He was one of the organizers of the Chorus Festival in Lérida in 1863. He composed the Himne triomfant de l’Art.
