Jurist, politician (of the Conservative-Liberal Party), member of the Academy of the Juridical Sciences and Buenas Letras of Barcelona, and historian of the aristocracy. Duran i Bas was a law professor at the University of Barcelona and Dean of the Bar Association in Barcelona. He was a representative of Barcelona at the Spanish Parliament and became the Spanish minister of justice in 1899.
Duran i Bas sponsored the Cors de Clavé and wrote an essay that was included in El libro del obrero, titled “La economía y las cajas de Ahorro.” El libro del obrero is an edited volume by Ceferí Tresserra, launched during a choral festival in 1862. Each member of the chorus received a copy of the book along with a grammar and a dictionary. It was also sold to the public during this same festival, and the proceeds went to the choral societies.
