Pedro Roca

Politician

Republican federalist. He was part of the Cantón de Cartagena and participated in the “Junta Revolucionaria de Salvación Pública,” created on July 12, 1873. The president of this Junta were Pedro Gutiérrez de la Puente and its vice-president José Bonet Torrens. Pedro Roca was a board member (vocal) and also lieutenant of the militia.

The Cantón de Cartagena (Cantón Murciano) was a federalist uprising that occurred during the First Spanish Republic (the Republic was short, 11 months, 1873-1874). The objective of the uprising was to constitute a Federal Cantón in the province of Murcia.

Socialists such as Pedro Roca were brought into the Revolutionary Junta to make it more appealing to the masses.
